Jumping Jolly bops!

July 22nd, 2008

Flickering flames, bursting balloons, super scientist and random robot. You may be asking what are all these? Well I have the answer; these words represent the amazing Jolly bops show!

From a safe distance we saw the process of three balloons being popped by a flame of fire on a stick, a lid bursting off the top of a container with no one touching it because of too much air pressure and gas inside the tin.

I was one of the lucky people that got to take photos along with my two best friends Nadine and Momtahina. Some boys got to play the didgeridoo and the jolly Professor and Rusty the robot were the teachers of the lesson.

The Jolly professor made a flower pop out of a pot by using his magic wand. Rusty the robot sang us a song while playing the guitar and two girls turned rain sticks while four other girls and the Jolly professor played sticks. The song was called raining on the rock.

Everyone had an amazing time and we hoped that they would come again next year.

Freedom!!!!!

May 30th, 2008

This is something in my life that I do not have. I do not have freedom. You may be thinking that it is impossible to not have freedom but not in my life. Some girls or children are allowed to go to their friends houses, go out with their friends and get to choose what they want in their future. It’s different with me, I am a Muslim girl that wears the scarf on her head and I respect that fact but what annoys me is that others don’t.

They say that it ruins your life and you go paranoid by not having to choose what you want because someone is choosing it for you! The people that are choosing what I want and my future are my parents and I am okay with that. If it was someone else that was choosing I wouldn’t be okay but these people  are my parents, the people that raised me.

My mother for instance, she was the one that gave me my life practically. My father worked day and night to provide my family with money to buy food and drink for us to survive, although I shouldn’t be going into my family life.

Well I just wanted to say that all the kids or girls out there who still have a chance to be free, then stop worrying abut everyone and everything around you and go out have fun.  Be free!!!!  Be free!!!! Be free!!!. (Hope you don’t think I am over reacting!!)

Volcanic disaster of Vesuvius!

April 9th, 2008

My question is: What are the discoveries of the lost cities?

  • In 1594 Count Muzzio Tuttavilla decided to build an aqueduct to carry water from the river Sarno to his villa at Torre Annunziata at the foot of Vesuvius. As the workmen were digging along the southern slopes of the volcano they uncovered ruined buildings.
  • In spite of this discovery Pompeii was not the first of the buried towns to be excavated. In 1710, 13 kilometres up the coast of Resina a peasant was digging another well in which he discovered large slabs of marble. A local noble man seeing the marbles quickly noticed what they where and bought the land.
Herculaneum, one of the buried towns had been discovered. A great treasure hunt began.
  •  I think that perhaps Fiorelli was best remembered for his plaster cast of the dead! Many skeletons were found at Pompeii. The fascinating thing was not so much the skeleton as the imprint of the body which was shown in the ashes. When people who where caught by the eruption died, the ashes and pumice settled in around their bodies. Then the rain came which washed more ash into the cracks between the pumice. This then hardened to seal in the bodies. In time the flesh and clothing decayed leaving only the bones, but every detail of the body was imprinted in the ashes. Fiorelli invented a method of casting copies of the body by pumping a type of plaster into the cavity left by the body. This procces has since been used to cast doors, shutters & even tree roots.

My information comes from the book Pompeii by: Peter Connolly

Thinking about Samorost 3

December 14th, 2007

We laughed and screamed while we where playing samorost 1# and the fun continued with samorost 2# but the mystery was samorost 3#. We still haven’t bought it so we cant play it and when we finished samorost 2# I saw the planet and it was alive it looked like an echidna. On every single planet there are lights flashing on it and we still can’t figure out  what they are. I wonder how the people look like on the guy with the white hat and pyjamas planet, if they look the same as him or different. Also the people on the planet in samorost 2#. Then we come to the people on the planet on samorost 3# none of us know what they look like unless they bought it at home. I really wonder what samorost three might be. I Think it might be you have to go around the planet and look for things to build a better spaceship and supplies to keep safe and healthy.

Dragons dinner day!!!

December 7th, 2007

The remains of the shriveled AllStars crumble on the floor from the fiery breath of DRAGONS! While most of them are having the best time at camp. Who knows what they where doing…… well besides them. We put all our effort and time into making the dragons and I say they look super good. I made one but never got to finish it before the campers came back but I love looking at all the wonderful ones that other people made. To make one  all you to do is follow a few easy steps:

  1. Firstly you have to get a few different coloured papers & Draw a shape of a head you want.
  2. Then do the same with the eyes, the snout and the feet.
  3. Once you have done that cut them all out .
  4. Then you must get either some glue or sticky tape.
  5. After that you have to get a coloured piece of cardboard and draw a loopy kind of body & a straight one.
  6. To continue you must cut out the loopy & the straight cardboard pieces.
  7. Then you must start to glue the eyes and the nose to the head.
  8. After that you have to glue the curvy cardboard to the top of the of the straight cardboard and glue the feet on the side.
  9. To finish off you have to glue the head to the body and then make like a tail on the cardboard cut that out and glue it to the end of the body and your done.

Then you should come out with a fantastic looking dragon which you can attach a string to & hang in your room or house or on a special occasion.

Egypt

Did you know that Egyptians decorated the walls of their palaces, homes and tombs with brightly coloured paintings. Sometimes the paintings would be about everyday life and sometimes there about their Gods and kings.

The Nile River is quite a wide river. It is the longest river in the whole of Egypt. The Egyptians use the river for traveling and shipping goods to another place in egypt. If you wanted to ship something down a river you could not send it all the way down to the end of the river or else your boat will collapse.

You will be amazed to see that all the farms egypt look nothing like the ones here in Australia because over there they have beautiful rich trees full with rich, ripe fruit. In the paddocks you will find the most wonderful vegetables that have ever been grown in the whole of Egypt.

So the next time you think of visiting Egypt remember to take your camera and your money bag.
